“The Ebony Canal, narrated by Viola Davis, is a powerful documentary addressing Black infant mortality and maternal health disparities. Directed by Emmy-winner Emmai Alaquiva, the film will be screened at Sundance to spark meaningful conversations and inspire action for healthcare equity. This is our first screening for this movie.“

“The Ebony Canal will be screened at Sundance Film Festival, marking a pivotal moment in its journey to raise awareness about Black infant mortality and maternal health disparities. Narrated by Viola Davis and described by Director Emmai Alaquiva as his “love letter to Black women and Black mothers,” the documentary amplifies the voices of mothers, families, and healthcare professionals tackling systemic inequities. The film also features insights from Former Vice President Kamala Harris, maternal health advocate Kimberly Seals Allers, and Charles Johnson, with creative contributions from Keke Palmer adding depth to its storytelling. Executive producers Brenda Gilbert (BRON Studios) and Sanjay Rawal lent visionary support to bring this transformative project to life. This screening serves as a powerful platform to spark vital conversations and drive actionable solutions in maternal healthcare.”
